Founded in 1931 by Rudolf Wild, Capri-Sun began as 'Wild Flavours,' with a philosophy centred on using only natural ingredients. In 1969, he launched what is now Capri Sun under the name Capri-Sonne, inspired by the Italian island of Capri. Tadweld proudly supported Capri-Sun, one of the world’s most recognized brands with iconic design and 6 billion pouches sold annually, in its strategic relocation.

Challenge:

  • When Capri-Sun announced the relocation of its UK production facilities in 2024, it was more than just a business decision, it was the beginning of a new chapter for one of the world’s best-loved juice brands. The move saw a production shift from two long-standing sites in London and Scotland to a new home at Princes Group’s flagship soft drinks facility in Bradford.

Action:

  • This transition required careful planning, and seamless coordination between multiple contractors. At the heart of it all was Tadweld Ltd, appointed by the principal contractor, Integrated Control Systems (ICS), to take on one of the most challenging aspects of the project: moving and reassembling Capri-Sun’s complex production platforms.

Not only were the platforms coming from two different sites either end of the country, but they were also going to be joined together to accommodate both lines side by side.

Unlike standalone machines, Capri-Sun’s production platforms are large modular structures, designed to support entire production lines. Each platform consists of multiple parts, from decking sheets, stairways, handrails to support posts.

Each section was carefully dismantled, meticulously documented, safely transported across the country, and rebuilt with exact precision at Capri-Sun’s Bradford site.

Working closely with Integrated Control Systems, Tadweld brought specialist expertise crucial to the project’s success. Facing significant logistical challenges on site, the reassembly was executed using a push-pull system, with one team dismantling and another rebuilding simultaneously. With over 30 years of proven experience, Tadweld ensured this challenging project ran seamlessly. The interface between the two platforms was meticulously designed and planned by our in-house team, to ensure a perfect union of the two platforms.

The Result:

  • Bradford becomes Capri-Sun’s New Home

  • Thanks to Tadweld’s expertise and commitment, Capri-Sun’s new production lines at Bradford are now fully operational and capable of producing over 250 million pouches per year.

The move not only created 50 new jobs in Bradford, but also marked the beginning of a more sustainable future for the brand, with eco-friendly packaging and new product launches.

Thirsty for More…...? Let’s look at the numbers.

367 decking sheets – carefully dismantled, catalogued, and transported to Bradford.
