Adapting to fit within a tight space - Tadweld developed a design to create a safe access platform within a restricted area.
Valeo Snack Foods approached Tadweld as they faced a critical need to ensure safe access to their tanks for cleaning purposes. However, the project itself presented unique constraints, namely an extremely limited amount of space to work with.
Challenge:
The available space was limited, as the area behind the existing border fence could not be utilised.
The solution required a robust design that would meet safety standards without disrupting the surrounding infrastructure.
Actions:
To address these challenges, we took a comprehensive approach:
Site survey: Before commencing the design process we completed a comprehensive site survey. Given the tight nature of the site, we reviewed the available access and egress routes, and we also measured the full site dimensions, including the height of the tanks and the size of the surrounding area.
Design: Using the site survey information in conjunction with the client requirements we were able to design a fit for purpose solution. We chose a mild steel galvanised frame construction for cost efficiency and durability. The open-grid galvanised flooring provides high strength, good durability and excellent grip for outdoor environments.
Fabrication: We manufactured all elements of the tank access platform in house, with the exception of the handrail standards and the galvanising process which were supplied by trusted supply partners. The total fabrication time was 2 weeks.
Installation and Construction: Our team managed the entire installation process, including concreting the platform foundations. The install occurred over a 3-day period.
Results:
Enhanced Safety: The platform provides secure access for personnel during tank cleaning operations.
Space Optimisation: We successfully overcame the spatial limitations, ensuring minimal disruption to the existing layout.
Turnkey Efficiency: By managing all aspects of the project—from design to construction—we reduced complexity for the client and delivered a fully functional system on time and within budget.
